Anyone looking for the fantastic imagination will have to wait patiently until the last few chapters, as the book begins as a rather textbook history of astronomy, the solar system and the physics of space travel. I have read other works of Futurology, however the imagination of this work exceeds all the others on so many different levels. Michio Kaku does convincingly what few others can, he takes the most fantastical plot devices conceivable within Science Fiction and turns them into Science Fact.

That said I found it a great way to get into a complex topic so it certainly won’t be my last audiobook. My first experience using Audible so some of the above may be down my inexperience with the medium. I also found that by listening to the same content again when commuting the following morning I had a clearer recall and understanding. I don’t mean that in a pejorative way, the complexity of the issues discussed clear the mind to make sleep easier. Quite hard work at times, especially in the second half although was a great book to address insomnia. I suspect this is purely a matter of personal taste. Very clearly enunciated narration, if a little flat. What the book really lacks is a good edit, if recompiled it could be substantially more concise and compelling. The writing style is rather repetitive with a similar approach to quoting third-parties used over and over. Interesting but as a beginner quite hard work.
